Apart from the academic and co-curriculum achievements, recipients of the awards had their active participation in community services taken into account by the panel of judges.
In the Youth Environmental Care Award, SM All Saints' Environmental Club was honoured for their active role in promoting awareness on the environment among their fellow schoolmates by organising a wide range of activities.
Also honoured at the celebrations was 23-year old Suzie Yanti Watson, a paraplegic from Kampung Morion in Kota Marudu, who despite only receiving formal education nine years ago at Bukit Harapan, has managed to master the use of Bahasa Malaysia as well the English language.
She has used her new-found skills to assist her fellow students at the home to improve their grasp of both languages.
Suzie is currently studying at the Seri Insan School here in Form Four, where she has earned praises from teachers and students there for her positive attitude, dedication and confidence.
She received the Special Youth Award together with a trophy, certificate and also RM1,000 cash.
Suzie said her biggest challenge so far was having to live far apart from her family, adding she missed them, especially her siblings. She hopes to have her own house someday so that she and her siblings could live together.
All the awards were presented by Federal Deputy Minister of Housing and Local Government, Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun, who commended City Hall for holding such event.
"These awards should be an incentive for our children to have a healthy competition among each other not only academically but also in their co-curriculum activities," she said.
She added that it was in line with the Government's aspirations to see the younger generation not only excel in their studies but also develop positive qualities that are important as future leaders of the country.
Also present at the celebrations was Mayor Datuk Iliyas Ibrahim.
