Intro Mengenai Penampang

 

SMK Datuk Peter Mojuntin terletak lebih kurang 3 km dari Pekan Donggongon dalam daerah Penampang.  Penampang merupakan sebuah daerah yang terletak di pantai barat negeri Sabah, bersebelahan dengan daerah Kota Kinabalu. Kedudukannya di pantai menjadikan Penampang antara tempat yang menarik untuk dilawati di Sabah, terutamanya untuk melihat kehidupan masyarakat Kadazan.

 

Nama "Penampang" diambil daripada nama salah sebuah kampung yang terawal di daerah itu, iaitu Kampung Penampang. Nama "penampang" berasal daripada perkataan Kadazan yang bermaksud "batu besar". Ini kerana pada masa itu terdapat banyak batu besar di kampung tersebut.
