Recognising linear algebraic terms

  • A linear term is a term with one unknown and the power of the unknown is one.

 

Example:
1. Which of the following are linear terms?

2. Select the linear expressions from the list below.

3. Classify the terms below as either linear or non-linear terms.

 

Recognising linear algebraic expressions

  • A linear algebraic expression is formed when two or more terms with the power of one are combined by addition or subtraction or both.

 

Example:
1. Determine whether the equations below are linear equations.



2. State whether each of the following equations is a linear equation with one unknown.


Sometimes it is possible to write an equation based on some information or a diagram.
