Set Induction
± 5 minutes

  • Teacher shows some headlines taken from newspapers on a power point slides presentation.
  • Teacher asks the students to tell what the headlines are about.
  • Teacher discusses the answers with the students.
  • Students read the headlines.
  • Students tell what they think what the headlines are about in their own words.
  • Students discuss the answers with the teacher.

Pre-writing
± 20 minutes

  • Teacher instructs students to work in group of four or three and appoint a leader and a secretary in the group.
  • Teacher tells that the groups are going to carry out a brainstorming technique.
  • Teacher tells the students what they need to do in a brainstorming technique.
  • Teacher shows pictures about a flash flood on a power point slides presentation.
  • Teacher asks each group to brainstorm and write down as many points or ideas as they could from the pictures for about 10 minutes.
  • Teacher asks representative from each group to present the outcome of their discussion.
  • Students sit in group of four or three and do what the teacher instruct them to do.
  • Students listen to teacher explanation.
  • Students look at the pictures.
  • In groups students brainstorm and write down their points or ideas.
  • Representative from each group present their points or ideas based on the pictures.

While writing
± 40 minutes

  • Teacher gets students to talk about the pictures on the power point slides presentation briefly.
  • Teacher asks students to write a story about the flash flood of about 120 and give it a title.
  • Teacher goes around the class to monitor and facilitate.
  • Students talk about the pictures briefly.
  • Students write a story about the flash flood individually .

Post writing
± 10 minutes

  • Teacher asks students some wh-questions:
  • What do you think of the possible causes of the flash flood?
  • What would happen to people affected by floods?
  • Students answer the wh-questions by stating their own opinion and ideas.

Closure
± 5 minutes

  • Teacher gets feedback from students what they learn from the brainstorming technique.
  • Teacher tells students the rules they need to follow during brainstorming.
  • Students give feedback what they think they learnt from brainstorming technique.
  • Students listen to the rules on what to do during brainstorming.
