Abstrak

Kajian ini bertujuan mengkaji sikap guru-guru pelatih KPLI (SR) j-QAF Ambilan Januari 2005 terhadap pementoran yang telah mereka lalui semasa latihan mengajar. Aspek pementoran yang disentuh dalam kajian ini ialah peranan-peranan pensyarah pembimbing, hubungan pensyarah pembimbing-guru pelatih sewaktu proses pementoran, sesi penyeliaan, dan kualiti-kualiti yang seharusnya dimiliki oleh pensyarah pembimbing. Sampel kajian terdiri daripada guru-guru pelatih j-QAF Ambilan Januari 2005. Kajian ini berlandaskan teori pembelajaran Vygotsky iaitu Zon Perkembangan Proksimal. Empat persoalan kajian telah dikemukakan dan instrumen yang digunakan untuk mengumpul data ialah soal selidik, soalan terbuka dan rujukan dokumen. Data kuantitatif dianalisis menggunakan perisian SPSS. Hasil kajian ini mendapati bahawa majoriti responden sangat bersetuju atau bersetuju bahawa pelbagai peranan yang telah dimainkan oleh pensyarah pembimbing telah meningkatkan kemahiran dan pengetahuan guru-guru pelatih dalam pelaksanaan pengajaran-pembelajaran serta telah memperkembangkan kemajuan diri mereka dari aspek profesional dan personal. Hubungan pensyarah pembimbing-guru pelatih amatlah penting bagi perkembangan diri guru pelatih dan proses pementoran itu sendiri. Kualiti-kualiti yang seharusnya dimiliki pensyarah dan yang dipersepsikan guru pelatih telah banyak menyumbang kepada kemajuan diri guru pelatih di alam keguruan. Kesimpulannya, guru-guru pelatih telah menunjukkan sikap yang amat positif terhadap proses pementoran yang telah dapat meningkatkan penghargaan diri mereka sebagai bakal pendidik.[Kandungan]

Abstrak

Kajian ini bertujuan menilai kualiti pengajaran pensyarah-pensyarah Pendidikan Islam di Institut Perguruan Gaya daripada persepktif pelajar j-QAF. Kaedah yang digunakan ialah kaedah kuantitatif menggunakan instrumen borang soal selidik berskala Likert. Seramai 21 orang guru pelatih j-QAF ambilan Januari 2006 dipilih untuk kajian ini. Lima kategori kualiti pengajaran pensyarah dikenal pasti iaitu (i) sahsiah diri pensyarah, (ii) penggunaan modul pembelajaran secara berkesan, (iii) penggunaan ICT dalam proses pengajaran dan pembelajaran, (iv) pendekatan, kaedah dan teknik yang digunakan dalam proses pengajaran dan pembelajaran dan (v) persepsi pelatih dalam pelbagai aspek sebagai aspek penting pengukuran keberkesanan proses pengajaran. Implikasi dari kajian ini menunjukkan secara umumnya kebanyakan pelajar berpuas hati dengan kualiti pengajaran yang dilaksanakan oleh pensyarah Pendidikan Islam. Namun terdapat banyak lagi ruang yang perlu diperbaiki oleh pensyarah untuk menjadikan pengajaran mereka lebih menarik seperti penggunaan ICT sebagai Bahan Bantu Mengajar dalam setiap sesi interaksi mereka dengan guru-guru pelatih.[Kandungan]

 

The Metamorphosis: Butterfly Or Moth?

Abstract

This is a qualitative case study on the change of beliefs of a teacher trained under the school-based mode of teacher training programme (LPBS). The Kelly's (1955) personal contruct theory and Rokeach (1968), Fishbein and Ajzen (1975) and Abelson (1979) cognitive psychology theories were used as the theoretical framework. Data was collected from lesson plans, reflections and journals entries; interviews with the teacher, her cooperating teacher, and her lecturer supervisor; and one classroom observation by the researcher. Data was transcribed verbatim and analyzed using Atlas TI. The results revealed that the teacher trained under LPBS has evolved her beliefs in her professional values and practice, knowledge and understanding, and teaching.[Kandungan]

 

The Cocoon Cracks: Students' Reflections On Learning Counseling Theories

Abstract

This paper is a sharing of students' reflections on what they have gained from learning counseling theories. Forty five students' Personal Development Journal entries which make direct reference to counseling theories are the source of the data. Students find learning counseling theories help them to understand themselves and others better and the technique learnt help them solve their problems. They perceive that counseling theories as useful and applicable as well as something they can relate to. Students also experience positive changes and they think others may benefit from the use of counseling theories.[Kandungan]

 

The Importance Of Introductory Physics Education In Teacher Training Institutes

Abstract

A good physics teacher must have a good command of physics content and teaching strategy to make physics meaningful to students. Physics is meaningless if it is thought of as a subject with formulas and principles. Physics teachers themselves should be able to interpret principles and formulas and relate them with daily life phenomena. Hence, the physics teachers' content knowledge should be in depth and she should be willing to learn new knowledge and at the same time further her knowledge and discover meaningful information from principles and formulas. If a novice physics teacher who leaves the Teacher Training Institute is well equipped with basic physics content then she definitely will improve herself as a competent teacher. This paper studies the need for an extra paper in physics content for KPLI Physics Syllabus.[Kandungan]

Abstrak

Kajian ini meninjau pelaksanaan pengajaran dan pembelajaran Pendidikan Sivik dan Kewarganegaraan (PSK) di beberapa sekolah rendah di sekitar Kota Kinabalu. Hasil kajian menunjukkan terdapatnya pelaksanaan pengajaran mata pelajaran PSK di sekolah tersebut walaupun tenaga pengajarnya menghadapi beberapa kekangan dalam melaksanakannya. Pengkaji juga mendapati guru-guru sekolah tidak melaksanakan komponen Projek Kewarganegaraan mengikut prosedur yang digariskan mengikut sukatan pelajaran.[Kandungan]

 

A Study On ESL Teachers' Use Of Computer In ESL Teaching And Learning

Abstract

This study examines ESL Teachers' use of computer technology in ESL teaching and learning. The aims of this study were to find out factors that affect ESL teachers in using computers in teaching and learning and how frequent they use computers in teaching and learning. The findings show that teachers' limited computer competency, time factor, technical support might have deterred them from using the technology. The Person-Product-Moment correlation test shows that there is a significant relationship between the teachers' computer competency and integration of ICT in teaching and learning English (r=.63, p<.01). In addition, the results also show that there is a mild relationship between the teachers' perception, lack of time, and integration of ICT in ESL teaching and learning. Overall, the findings show that there is not much integration of ICT in ESL teaching and learning in the schools surveyed.[Kandungan]

Kajian ini adalah satu kajian kes untuk menganalisis secara kualitatif pergerakan merejam lembing. Seorang pelajar lelaki Program Persediaan Ijazah Sarjana Muda Perguruan dipilih sebagai subjek kajian ini. Kajian ini menggunakan Model Integrasi Analisis Kualitatif Komprehensif Knudson & Morrison (1997) dengan tujuan menganalisis kekuatan dan kelemahan lakuan merejam lembing. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan model ini amat berguna untuk membantu pengkaji menganalisis pergerakan subjek, memperbaiki kelemahan dan meningkatkan prestasi merejam lembing.[Kandungan]

 

Enhancement And Analysis Of Question Level For KPLI Physics Students

Abstract

Question-asking is a basic skill required for the development of students' scientific thinking. However, the way in which physics teachers conduct laboratory activities does not usually stimulate student thinking by asking productive questions. To engage KPLI physics teacher trainees in generating productive questions, the Elgeest's and Alfke's categories of question stems with a set of manipulatives learning strategy (EAM) were applied. Teacher trainees were asked to generate questions before and after instruction. Questions were classified according to three categories: properties, comparisons, and causal relationships. It was found that before learning using the EAM strategy, teacher trainees tended to ask only questions of the properties category. In contrast, students tended to pose questions that reveal a higher level of thinking following instruction with the EAM strategy. It is suggested that learning through the EAM strategy can be offered as a stimulus for physics teacher trainees to ask productive questions that foster students' scientific thinking.[Kandungan]

Abstrak

Kajian ini meninjau keberkesanan penggunaan grafik oleh guru dalam proses pengajaran dan pembelajaran di bilik darjah bagi mata pelajaran Ekonomi Rumah Tangga (ERT). Kajian telah dijalankan berikutan masalah pelajar tidak berminat dan kurang memahami apa yang disampaikan oleh guru semasa proses pengajaran dan pembelajaran. Data diperolehi melalui kaedah pemerhatian dan ujian pra dan ujian pasca. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan terdapat perubahan selepas pelaksanaan proses pengajaran dan pembelajaran menggunakan bahan grafik. Pelajar-pelajar juga menunjukkan respon yang amat baik semasa proses pengajaran dan pembelajaran dilaksanakan dan hasil ujian pasca membuktikan semua pelajar memahami apa yang disampaikan dan dapat menjawab dengan lebih tepat.[Kandungan]

 

The Buddy Support System: Practising What We Preach

Abstract

The teaching of Mathematics and Science in English has become a much-discussed topic in Malaysian education system. This switch in the medium of instruction has caused great concern among parents, students and teachers. Among the many Language Support Programmes, undertaken by the Ministry of Education to help Mathematics and Science teachers cope with the teaching of these subjects in English, is a mentoring programme called the Buddy Support System. The Buddy Support System aims to provide resource persons in schools to help Mathematics and Science teachers improve their English Language proficiency. When approached by two colleagues to help them with their English Language proficiency, I decided to form a Buddy Support System in my work place, being a 'critical friend' to my two 'buddies'. This action research explores features of our Buddy Support System that brought about its success. It also seeks to discover certain aspects of personal growth among the 'buddies' and their 'critical friend' in this onsite support system.[Kandungan]

 

Survey Study On The Implementation Of The MS ISO 9001:2000 System In Institut Perguruan Gaya

Abstract

This survey research study aims to gather feedback about the understanding, implementation and perceived effects of the QMS implementation in the Institute. The information is collected through a questionaire. 78 respondents comprising the academic and administrative staff of Institut Perguruan Gaya were involved in the survey. Quantitative data was analysed using SPSS. Written comments were entered into a document file and analyzed through manual coding and patterning. On the whole, the staff of Institut Perguruan Gaya perceived that they understood quite well the MS ISO 9001:2000 system. It was found that direct involvement in the implementation engendered more understanding, more involvement and favorable perception of the effects of the QMS. There is a need to have more staff involved directly in the implementation of the MS ISO 9001:2000 system. The staff did not think that the MS ISO 9001:2000 lightened workload.[Kandungan]

The nature of Physics is such that there is the quest to find the all embracing fundamental concepts. Historically the discovery of such fundamental concepts have resulted in major breakthroughs both theoretically and practically. This paper seeks to posit the possibility of using these "Big Ideas of Physics" as the basic framework to teach Physics more efficiently to young learners. It also suggests that concept mapping could be a graphic tool that could be utilised for this end.[Kandungan]

 

A Brief Review On One-Way Analysis-Of-Variance (ANOVA) F Tests

Abstract

The analysis-of-variance (ANOVA) F test is one of the most frequently used statistical analysis in quantitative educational research. Unfortunately, a great volume of literature have found that the majority of published studies in educational research are seriously flawed, containing analytical and interpretational errors. The purpose of this paper is to highlight and discuss some major errors and misuses when educational researchers applied one way analysis-of-variance (ANOVA) F Test as their data analysis tool. This article intended to equip readers with the basic ANOVA F test procedure, output from Statistical Packege for the Social Sciences (SPSS) to aid understanding of the procedure. Various parametric and nonparametric alternatives to the F test under assumption violations conditions are briefly discussed. Also contained in this essay recommendations and guidelines for good data analytic practices for ANOVA F test that is based on the extant literature.[Kandungan]

Melalui pepatah 'sedikit-dikit lama-lama menjadi bukit' menganalogikan maklumat yang dikumpul sedikit demi sedikit akan bertambah dan menimbun sehingga menjadi 'bukit'. Literasi maklumat yang perlu dikuasai melangkaui konsep membaca, menulis dan mengira melalui konsep literasi maklumat dan konsep literasi maklumat berpiawai dan sistematik akan membantu pihak yang berkenaan memanipulasi maklumat mengikut masa, tempat dan situasi secara wajar haruslah mengikut piawai yang ditetapkan. Justeru, literasi maklumat analisis mudah dan literasi maklumat analisis mendalam merupakan satu panduan kepada pihak yang ingin mengenalpasti keperluan maklumat tanpa rasa 'anomali' turut dibincangkan.[Kandungan]

Puisi Melayu tradisional lahir dan berkembang secara popular dalam masyarakat Melayu yang buta huruf. Puisi Melayu adalah warisan tradisi lisan, yang diwarisi sejak turun temurun. Penciptaan atau proses kreativiti puisi tersebut dilakukan dengan rapi sehingga dapat menghasilkan susunan kata-kata yang indah dan menarik. Contohnya, pantun. Keindahan yang terdapat pada pantun itu membolehkan populariti tradisi ini dipertahankan sehingga kini. Nilai-nilai keindahan dalam pantun khasnya dan genre puisi Melayu tradisional yang lainnya dapat dihayati oleh segenap lapisan anggota masyarakat dan dengan itulah meletakkan pantun itu sebagai tradisi budaya yang dapat dianggap amat popular dan tahan diuji sepanjang zaman. Abstract

This article draws on the existing literature on the concerns, problems, and difficulties facing beginning teachers to discuss their needs and its implications for induction. Discussion of the topic will be dealt with through answering a series of questions posed as headings. Beginning teachers need the continued support they enjoyed during teacher training. They need proper induction into the school, and a mentor to help and guide them through their first year. And to remain effective, they need to be involved in continued professional development. The transition from teacher training institute classroom to school classroom is fraught with difficulties and frustrations if carried out without help. New teachers need assistance in the translation of theory and methods into the everyday classroom practice. Induction dan mentoring is a good continuation of support that allow the beginning teacher to learn and grow in the process of professional development initiated during initial teacher training.[Kandungan]
