From Writing Lessons
Evelyn
Lee Fung Choy
Abstract
Writing
has always been considered the most difficult of the four language
skills and students have always dreaded writing lessons. This
classroom investigation tried out a few writing strategies in
an attempt to overcome the fear of writing in students. The strategies
used are process writing, journal writing and idea-generating
techniques. The change observed in the students was rapid and
encouraging. Journals kept throughout the writing course has provided
some of the data used in this article.[Kandungan]

Collaborating
With Adult Learners: Exploring The Role Of The Facilitator
Goh
Lay Huah
Abstract
This
is an action research. I have adopted a postmodernism approach
to research as narrative, that is, "research as it is experienced"
and not just "research as it is described" (Packwood
& Sikes, 1996). I used myself as a subject of study, the facilitator,
with three English Language teachers who are participants in the
Smart School In-Service course in Maktab Perguruan Gaya, as my
co-researchers. The instruments used were: reflective grids, journal,
audio-taped reflection session and a simple checklist. I learned
that it was important for a facilitator to posses good interpersonal
skills, be a good listener, be positive minded and be constructive.
A facilitator who is assertive also seemed to be an important
asset to my adult learners.[Kandungan]

Hearing
And Not Listening !
Gertrude
Jock
Abstract
This
paper highlights a personal inquiry on 'how hearing and not listening'
can affect personal performance. The skill of listening to the
spoken words is different compared to the skill of hearing. This
difference can generate either good understanding or utter frustration.
There are many factors that affect understanding but based on
my training sessions, I will share with you my three main factors
that have influenced my learners' listening. This influence has
affected their understanding. By doing this research, I hope to
improve my training strategies and also raise more awareness of
the importance of listening in training.

Satu
analisis persepsi guru pelatih Opsyen Pengajian Matematik Semester
5 tentang imej diri sebagai seorang guru matematik. Hasil analisis
lukisan tentang imej guru matematik menunjukkan ciri dominan
guru matematik 'stereotype' seperti pengajaran berpusatkan guru,
mengumpulkan maklumat tentang perkembangan guru pelatih.[Kandungan]

Abstract
Group
Discussion and Presentation is a common method used in teaching
and learning. In this action research paper, the researcher explains
the use of the Soap Box Method in the Presentation level to encourage
meaningful learning for both the presenters (speakers) and the
listeners (audience). Reflections and observations were made by
the researcher before and during the group discussion and presentation
with comments made by the teacher trainees in respond to the Soap
Box Method.[Kandungan]

Analysis
Of Error Patterns In Whole Number Division
Lee
Bee Leng
Abstract
This
is an exploratory study on the computational errors in whole number
division. The sample consisted of 54 Form One students from a
secondary school in Sabah. The instrument used was a written test
comprising 48 items in division computation of one-digit divisors
and two-digit divisors of 11 and 12. This study identified 29
patterns of errors which were categorized into 4 classifications:
basic fact errors, errors arising from zero difficulties, errors
occurring in the use of remainders, and errors from faulty procedures.
Analysis of error patterns among the different groups of achievers
showed that different achieving groups exhibited different common
error patterns.[Kandungan]
