Passport & Visa
Visitors to Malaysia must hold a valid passport or travel document with a minimum validity of six months beyond the intended visiting period. Most visitors are granted a two month visa-free stay upon arrival; however this is best confirmed by the nearest Malaysian Embassy prior to travel to Malaysia. Once in the country, visa extensions may be sought from the nearest Immigration Office, especially in Kota Kinabalu. Most nationalities do not require visas for social or business visits. For further information, please contact the nearest Malaysian diplomatic mission or Tourism Malaysia office.

Certain items such as taped video need to be declared at the Customs Counters but there are no declaration forms to complete apart from a recently introduced Traveler’s Currency Declaration Form. All kind of plant derivatives must also be declared to the Plant Quarantine Office.

Remembered! Drugs are taken seriously by the Malaysian authorities, and those convicted of drug trafficking will face the death penalty.
