The Malaysian currency is known as Ringgit Malaysia (RM) and there are 100sen
to each Ringgit. Notes come in several denominations: RM1, RM2, RM5, RM10, RM50
and RM100. There are coins of the following denominations: 1sen, 5sen, 10sen,
20sen and 50sen. Coin RM1 cannot be used since year 2006 and replaced with the
note RM1.
It is best to change money in the town, prior to departure for the park, at any
major-bank or money changer. Asian exchange rates have varied greatly over the

Major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Diners and Amex) are accepted at most
larger establishments in Kota Kinabalu, but visitor should bring enough cash for
food and sundry items purchased at the Kinabalu Park outlets. Travelers' cheques
are best changed in Kota Kinabalu. Tipping is not essential, though in big
establishments 10% service charges maybe incorporated into the final bill.
However, small change is normally left and those who offer exceptional services
