Before we present to you the procedure of making the sompoton, we would like to explain how we went about collecting our information. We believe that most of us have read or seen on television, newspapers or magazines about various traditional musical instruments, especially the sompoton. However, our group made the effort to seek information and witness with our very own eyes the gathering of materials and the making of this instrument. Man will never fully understand if he does not see it for himself. Thus, we are not able to experience and make this beautiful traditional instrument live in our hearts if we do not get acquainted with it.

Minaganu ikoi do iso oh timpu do minamanau doid iso kampung ponguranan kg. Tikolod id watas do Tambunan. Agayo kopio oh tingadan do minamangun tu kikosiwatan ikoi minongkirumo songulun gundohing id pomungaranan di Thadius Y. @ Ongkobung. Osuwau om otoluod kopio ih gundohing dii do minonusui miampai minanak boboroson poingkuro momonsoi do trunion do sompoton.

We took the time to visit one kampung namely Tikolod in the district of Tambunan. God was generous with his blessings so that we were able to meet and communicate with one Thadius Yongut @ Ongkobung. He was very friendly and generous, sharing with us his knowledge about making the sompoton.

Korikot nopo id kampung diti, minamanau ikoi do takod minoi pogihum om intong id nombo sinunion ngawi di tou toi ko korobu, sumbiling, polod om nokokito ikoi nogi dot nokoiyonon do tantadan ih pogonuan dot sopinit. Nokogompi dagai ot toinsanan kinitaan diti id gambar do kamera om video. Koinsanai oh gambar diti najadi mantad tumos dahai sendiri.

When we arrived, we walked through jungle up and down the hills to search for the natural material growing namely the korobu or gourd, sumbiling or bamboo, polod or palm tree, and sopinit or bees wax. We recorded all this on camera and video cassette with our own efforts.

Whenever this instrument is being played, we feel the harmonious melody permeates our hearts to make us united with the God-given nature.
